Australian Engineering Week: it’s a wrap!
Australian Engineering Week (August 1-7) has just wrapped up, and what a week it was.
Hosted by Engineers Australia, the week showcased the work engineers do to make our world a better place, and opened young minds to the exciting possibilities offered by engineering as a profession.
Engineering trivia nights, games and challenges got novices and experts alike thinking about some deep engineering conundrums. Meanwhile tours of major engineering plants, sites and companies, along with lectures by eminent professionals such as Dr. Chris Roberts, CEO of Cochlear, provided fascinating insights for long-standing professional engineers.
If you missed an event this year but want to know what was said, or have been inspired to get involved next year, just get in touch with your local division (contact details below) for more information.

Australian Engineering Week 2011 - Canberra Division Wrap Up
September 5, 2011
This year’s engineering week was a fantastic success it featured many new as well as our traditional and well-loved events.

Each of the division offices of Engineers Australia coordinate an Engineering Week campaign and put on their own range of events throughout the week. Engineers Australia provides support and advice whilst working to provide a national context for the divisions in each state and Territory to run their own events.
Australian Engineering Week events are organised by people from all walks of life; teachers, students, universities, industry and many more. All of our organisers share an enthusiastic approach to engineering and technology and the continuing success of the campaign depends entirely on the incredible efforts of the organisers and the enthusiasm of participants.
A wide range of events will be held around Australia, in all capital cities and some regional areas. As the program is finalised, you should check with your nearest Engineers Australia Division office to see which events will be held in your local area.
Most AEW events are free - all you need to do is register to attend. Some events will attract a small cost.
No! AEW is designed to encourage all people to learn more about engineering and the great work engineers do in our society.
Organising an event as part of Australian Engineering Week can benefit you, your organisation, your community and the wider public.
Potential benefits include:
- Increasing the profile of your organisation and/or area of engineering
- Enthusing and inspiring people with engineering and technology!
- Building links with the local community
- Reaching new audiences and attracting new members/supporters/staff
- Improving organisational and communication skills of staff and volunteers
- Attracting contributions and support
There will be a wide range of events designed for school-aged children. Please check back as the program is finalised to see what's on offer.
