Australian Engineering Week 2013 wrap up

Victoria Division celebrated Australian Engineering Week (AEW) by hosting almost 50 events throughout the week. These included the BAE Systems’ Williamstown Yard Tour where participants were given exclusive access to an Amphibious Assault Ship by the Chief of the Navy; an Introduction to Engineering presented by Women in Engineering Victoria; our launch event at the Deakin Edge, Fed Square with our keynote speaker Dr Fred Davis from Universal Biosensors and our Meet the Deans Roundtable which featured the Victorian Minister for Higher Education and Skills, the Deans of Engineering at Victoria’s Universities and the leading minds of the engineering profession in the private sector.

While the emphasis of AEW will always be on quality rather than quantity of events, we should herald the fact that there was great interest shown from our groups, principal partners and event partners, to be involved. What’s more, the public embraced AEW like never before. This augers well for the profile of engineers within the community and gives Victoria Division momentum to build on next year’s celebrations.

“I wanted to let you know how impressed I was with the events I attended for Australian Engineering week … All events were well organised, well attended and I thoroughly enjoyed being a participant.” Madeleine McManus, National Councillor.

A special thanks must go to our partners Davies Collison Cave, Deakin University, Fluor, La Trobe University, RMIT University, Swinburne University of Technology and Victoria University for their support of AEW.
