Message from Victorian Division President
Please join me in a week-long celebration of engineering excellence, as we showcase the 2013 Australian Engineering Week.
From 5 to 11 August, Victoria Division will highlight the work of engineers and provide an insight into how our contribution impacts your life.
If you drove to work this morning, it may be of comfort to know that a civil engineer designed, inspected and verified that the road you travelled was safe to carry a high volume of vehicles, morning, noon and night.
If rail transport was your preferred option, did you know an electrical engineer fashioned the electric grid and signalling system that made it possible for a network of trains to manoeuvre across suburbia and bring you safely to your destination.
Once at work you may have taken the lift to your office; did you know that a mechanical engineer designed the cabling system and made it safe for you and your co-workers to use the lift rather than take the stairs.
That call you took on your iphone was only possible because of the technical expertise of a communications engineer.
If you were in a hurry to get home that evening and chose to catch a taxi, it is possible the GPS satellite navigation system that guided your journey home was pioneered by the same engineers that powered the space shuttle program.
So, whether you are a student searching for a career option; a graduate looking to network your credentials; or NASA auditioning for the next Andy Thomas, join us and be a part of Australian Engineering Week 2013.
