Julian O'Shea

Julian O'Shea is the Curriculum and Research Coordinator at Engineers Without Borders. This humanitarian engineering position involves coordinating research project linking Australian students to projects in the developing world. This year students from around Australia will be working in partnership with community organisations across the Asia Pacific region. Project vary from improved waste management systems (southern India), a floating bio-gas facility (Tonle Sap lake, Cambodia), and a humanitarian dung-burning stove design (Nepal).

Julian is passionate about applying his technical expertise to make a positive impact. Sustainable development and poverty alleviation are particularly important, and Engineers Without Borders is the perfect organisation to address some of these global challenges.

Julian completed a Bachelor of Engineering, with Honours, from the University of Adelaide. Prior to working for the not-for-profit sector, he served as an electronics engineer in the Royal Australian Navy. This service included deployments in South East Asia and Pacific. He also spent twelve months volunteering as the International Outreach Officer for SPEED, a global engineering education not-for-profit. During this period he researched sustainable development and educational initiatives across Asia, Europe and Central America.
