Nearly everywhere we look, an engineer has been involved in improving our quality of life — from the houses we live in to the water we drink and the roads we drive on. This chance to make a difference to people’s lives, along with the opportunity to work on diverse projects, attracted Lana to engineering.
Since starting as a graduate engineer at AECOM eight years ago, Lana’s latest exciting project — marking her first involvement in an alliance — is the Darra to Springfield Transport Corridor Tender Design, in Queensland, which includes a rail-line extension, a new station, and associated road works. By offering a realistic alternative to commuting to Brisbane’s CBD by car, the project will provide much-needed infrastructure for a growing community and will help shape South East Queensland’s future.
“I chose transportation engineering because road projects require collaboration between many fields — from environmental and urban design to economics, acoustics, community consultation, as well as other engineering disciplines,” Lana said. “Traffic and transport directly affect our lives, so being able to move people and freight safely and efficiently not only contributes to a happier community but also results in a more environmentally friendly transport network.”
