Simon pursued engineering because he wanted to make a difference, applying science to solve problems and improve quality of life. He’s never looked back, saying that it’s an invigorating, challenging and exciting profession that can really make a difference.
“The proudest moments in my career have been when I see a team achieve results well above the individual abilities of team members,” he says.
Such team achievements involve the recent development of innovative Dragline buckets that have saved millions of dollars in extraction costs and emissions for the coal industry.
Working closely with the coal industry in his job, Simon would like to see innovations that reduce the environmental cost of carbon emission, while making organisations more efficient in their use of carbon at the same time.
